In a world that is changing each and every day it can be very hard to keep yourself in the loop of what’s in and what’s not. Here are 5 easy ways to stay up to date with the design industry (or any industry for that matter).
You’re currently doing the first one! These can be the best ways to keep in the know and also get other people’s perspectives on new trends. You may find that someone rambling in their blog gives you the inspiration for your next project. It can raise subjects and debates which you never even thought of. There are some great blog sites nowadays to inform you of anything and everything design.
Are you on social media? Of course you are, this isn’t the dark ages! Rather than just keeping in touch with friends why not use it to reach further and to gain more knowledge? Follow your favourite artists/designers/developers to see what they’re doing. Not only can you interact with them but you can be kept in the loop by some of the biggest people in your field.
Keep an eye out for any live feeds, conferences or webinars on your interested subject. There is always someone out there who wants to help and share what they know with other people. Watch tutorial videos or attend webinars where you can usually interact with the person hosting it and ask questions. There are many universities which offer free online classes on certain subjects so don’t miss out on them!
FOLLOW YOUR COMPETITORS
Have you heard the saying “keep your friends close and enemies closer”? This phrase can be implicated into your work. Watch what your competitors are doing and also what they aren’t. See what they are doing to draw in potential customers, how their design process works and most importantly how you can make yourself stand out from the crowd!
Sign up for an event calendar to keep up with what is happening in the design world as well as in your area. Have a think about whether you could get involved in any events whether you just attend or even have your own stall to showcase your skills. Events can be a great way of getting your brand noticed and recognised among people in the industry.
If you would like to know anymore regarding the subjects above, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Thank you for reading.
